The Fire Safety qualification is aimed at providing candidates with the necessary knowledge, understanding, and skills to prevent fire hazards, respond to emergencies, and support safe evacuation procedures in the workplace.

Learners gaining this qualification will know the basics of fire prevention, understand how to use firefighting equipment correctly, and follow safe evacuation procedures. The topics covered will help to maintain good practice in preventing fire risks, ensuring prompt emergency response, and promoting workplace fire safety & much more.

Centers are responsible for ensuring candidates can meet the necessary standard of language in which the course is being delivered.
1 Understand the role and responsibilities in fire safety
State the role and responsibilities of fire wardens and fire marshals
Identify how to minimize fire risks in the workplace
Recognize essential fire safety equipment and resources
2 Know how to assess fire risks and incidents
Conduct a fire risk assessment survey
Identify common workplace fire hazards
Call for emergency support in case of fire
Understand evacuation routes and assembly points
3 Be able to respond to a fire emergency
Assess the situation and raise the fire alarm
Ensure safe evacuation procedures are followed
Assist vulnerable persons during evacuation
Manage crowd control in fire emergencies
4 Know how to use fire extinguishers and equipment safely
Identify different types of fire extinguishers
Demonstrate the correct use of extinguishers on small fires

Recognize the importance of fire drills and training
7 Know how to manage a person affected by fire or smoke
Identify signs and symptoms of smoke inhalation
Provide initial care for minor burns and fire-related injuries
Assist until professional medical help arrives
8 Know how to administer fire evacuation and emergency procedures
Recognize different types of evacuation (partial, full, staged)
Understand fire assembly point protocols
Support accountability by conducting roll calls

The qualification is assessed using the HABC assessment pack and is split into two parts:
Part One: This component is assessed through practical demonstration of fire safety skills, including the correct use of fire extinguishers and safe evacuation procedures.
Part Two: This knowledge-based assessment requires learners to answer a series of short answer questions via written or oral responses related to fire safety principles and workplace fire prevention.
